Jenny Broadway Smith holds a BA in Psychology with a minor in Child Development and Family Relations from East Carolina University. She earned her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Education Specialist degree from Gardner-Webb University and is licensed by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Counselors. Jenny's specialized trainings include TF-CBT, EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and she is a Level 1 Certified Trauma Practitioner-Clinical.

Jenny's journey with The Dragonfly House began as a volunteer during her graduate school years in 2010. Trained as a forensic interviewer, she volunteered as needed while completing her studies. After obtaining her licensure, she transitioned to the role of Child and Family Trauma Therapist and has served in this capacity for 11 years. Her job duties include providing mental health assessments and individualized trauma-focused treatment using a client-centered approach from various modalities. She primarily treats children ages 11 through 17 and their caregivers and participates in peer consultations, mental health team meetings, and monthly case-review multidisciplinary meetings.

Jenny's motivation comes from every client she has ever had. She is constantly inspired by their strength, resilience, and determination. She values the trust her clients place in her to be vulnerable and share some of the darkest, most personal stories of their lives. Creating a safe and inviting space for individuals and families to process trauma and instill hope is essential to her. She finds the experience of sitting in the pain with her clients and sharing that journey powerful, and watching them learn and grow is immensely rewarding. Jenny appreciates that this job is one where she will never stop learning.

When not at work, Jenny loves spending time with her husband, daughter, and two aging dogs. Family is the heart of everything she does and always brings her back to what is most important. A homebody at heart, she believes in finding balance through self-care. Jenny enjoys the changing seasons, long walks outside, cooking, decorating, getting lost in a good book, and watching TV. Most importantly, she cherishes being a mom and watching her daughter navigate each new chapter in life.
