Article - Social Media Abuse

WE TAKE ACTION ON CASES INVOLVING SOCIAL MEDIA ABUSE.

Social media networks have exploded in use and popularity over the past few years. Today, many of your friends and family members may use social media to stay connected and communicate. But there is a dark side to social media, and many predators lurk behind fake profiles looking for opportunities to harm and abuse children and minors.

At The Dragonfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, we want to put an end to social media abuse and all other types of child abuse. Social media abuse refers to any type of abuse that occurs over a social media platform, such as Facebook or Instagram. It can happen on computers, tablets, mobile phones, or any other device connected to the internet, and it can occur at nearly any time.

Children can be at risk for social media abuse by both strangers they meet online and by people they know. In some cases, social media abuse might be an extension of other activities occurring offline, like grooming or bullying. A child might be the victim of social media abuse if they start spending excessive time online; become angry, distant, or upset after using the internet; or don’t want to talk about what they are doing while they are online and who they are communicating with.

Our children’s advocacy center helps and supports children and their families who have been abused while using social media sites. For more information about how you can support our cause and make a difference in the lives of children in our community, contact us today.
